Coffey Still
Background:
The project called for the demolition to ground level and removal of a redundant distillery building together with plant and equipment contained within the property.
Challenges:
- The building was of steel frame construction approx. 24.4m in height, 10.4 x 9.2m in width
- The walls and roof of the building clad with asbestos cement sheets
- The structure contained various items of equipment including a Braithwaite water tank at roof level and metal stills at upper level, all supported by steel supports
- The property has been vacant for a considerable period and is grossly contaminated with pigeon waste and carcasses.
Solutions:
Disused and derelict structures can present significant health risks to the public and our staff. These risks need to be neutralised before demolition can commence.
- Neutralisation, removal and disposal of pigeon guano and pigeon carcasses from within a distillery building.
- Asbestos removed in accordance with Asbestos Regulations 2006.
- Equipment dismantled and removed.
This large industrial structure was dismantled safely and efficiently and the resultant debris separated for recycling.
