Regeneration
Kaneb Terminals
Leith
May 06 – Sept 2006

Background:

The project called for the demolition and site clearance of fuel storage tanks and a former fuel storage complex within Leith’s historic Imperial Docks. There was an additional requirement for groundworks to prepare the site for redevelopment.

Challenges:

  • Complex site with multiple industrial structures
  • Potential risk of oil contamination
  • Asbestos located throughout the site.

Solutions:

  1. The project team needed to put together a detailed plan to logically sequence the dismantling, demolition, site clearance and groundworks for this technically challenging site.

  2. Dismantling and removal of all above-ground storage tanks.
  3. Dismantling and removal of all associated pipe-work and pipelines.
  4. Dismantling and removal of all overhead supporting gantries and
lighting towers.
  5. Removal and consigned disposal of asbestos cement sheet roof coverings from loading bays.
  6. Removal of loading bay canopies.
  7. Demolition and removal of all above-ground plinths and bund walls to the level of existing surrounding ground.
  8. Crushing suitable demolition debris arising from our on-site operations.
  9. Backfilling voids with recycled aggregate.

This complex, multiphase demolition was completed safely and on schedule.
