M74 Extension

Background:

Demolition and site clearance of a wide variety of industrial, commercial and office buildings to enable construction on the long-awaited M74 extension.

Challenges:

  • A wide diversity of different buildings
  • Possibility of contamination
  • Need to leave the ground in a fit condition for redevelopment.

Solutions:

The Reigart team needed to work closely with the other contractors to produce a logical demolition sequence across multiple sites that would facilitate groundworks for the new motorway extension.

  • Demolition of World War II bomb shelter consisting of reinforced concrete walls approximately 900mm thick, internal walls 450mm thick reinforced concrete.
  • 19th Century Work Houses / Warehouses, brick built with a variety of chimneys and works in close proximity to underground system.
  • 20th Century office blocks, including full gable separations to allow adjoined buildings to remain in us.
  • Large variety of industrial units and portal sheds.

The work proceeded according to plan providing timely access to key development locations along the route.
