Opening of New Recycling Centre for C&D Waste

Reigart Open New Recycling Centre for Construction and Demolition Waste

Reigart have opened a state of the art recycling centre at Drumcavel Quarry, Mount Ellen by Gartcosh.  The site opened on the 19th of November following extensive investment and research into treatments for Construction and Demolition Wastes.

Rated at between 200 - 500 tonnes per day depending on material type, the site has been designed to maximise the removal of wood, metal and general wastes from a mixed demolition waste stream, leaving a clean brick and rubble for further processing.

The process utilizes a turbo blower for the removal of light paper and plastic fractions.  This is followed by the removal of ferrous metals by over-band magnet and a positive pick for wood based materials.

Gordon Smith, Environmental Manager commented - this is a significant investment which will assist the company in achieving its target of 70% recycled materials from mixed demolition waste by 2020.  The European Parliament has adopted binding targets for the recycling of waste that the European Union's 27 member states will have to include in their national plans.

The new processing plant will allow us to improve our tonnages in relation to recycled products such as paper, glass and aggregates etc, which would normally be bound for landfill.

These recycled products will now be re-introduced into the supply chain.
