The Reigart fleet continues to grow
Last month’s arrival of three new Scania 8x4 rigids in Hornock Road, Coatbridge, kick-started the celebration of Reigart’s 21 years in business.
The North Lanarkshire based demolition and recycling specialists have enjoyed a steady growth over their two decades, and as soon as the landfill tax was introduced in 1996 they realised that there would be an increasing focus on recycling.
Pat Reilly was ‘in at the beginning’ in April 1988 when Reigart began. “At the time we hired plant and provided labour,” he recalls “and I suppose back then skilled labour was our real asset.”
“As the company developed, our investment in plant and infrastructure continued with the establishment of our own fully licensed recycling facilities, with recycling now a major part of our business.”
Five years ago the expansion of Reigart’s recycling facilities and the creation of a dynamic colourful livery helped raise our corporate visibility all over the country.
Recalls managing director Pat Reilly, “The immediate reaction to the livery was positive. It modernised our image and underlined our commitment to be seen to be at the forefront of modern demolition.”
Keeping Reigart’s demolition machinery and recycling materials on the move is a fleet of 16 HGVs. These have been recently augmented by the arrival of three new Scanias, supplied to the company’s Coatbridge base by the Bellshill division of Scania Scotland.
Hauling dozers, excavators, dumpers, etc. from site to site are the company’s 150 tonne plated 6x4 Scania tractor units linked to Nooteboom low-loaders capable of handling up to 70 tonnes. However the new ‘celebration’ flagships of the fleet are three top-spec 420hp Scania 8x4 rigids. Two have Multilift skip equipment and one sports a Weightlifter body built locally at Kirkliston.
The newcomers joined three tractor units and ten rigids, all Scanias and all only a few years old. Explains transport manager Tom Reilly: ‘We continually upgrade our fleet to ensure that we are constantly mobile and able to meet deadlines.”
Scania at Bellshill handle our maintenance mostly out of hours and at weekends. We purchase the vehicles on a ‘two plus two’ system ensuring four years of time-tabled maintenance off base which means one less worry for us and our O-licence is protected.
‘We will of course be celebrating our 21 years in business with an appropriate event later this year,’ promises Reigart’s managing director Pat Reilly.
